Book Boxes For Loan
Autism Asperger ACT has book boxes available for loan to day care centres, preschools, primary schools and high schools.
Day Care Centre 1 box
Preschool 2 boxes
Primary School 8 boxes
High School 2 boxes
Community 1 box
Each box contains approximately 20 age-appropriate books for children/students to read as well as general professional reading resources for teachers, parents and other carers.
Here is a small sample of some of the titles that are included:
How Are You Peeling? (Foods with Moods)
Share and Take Turns
My Friend with Autism
My Brother is Different
The Social Skills Picture Book
A User Guide to the GF/CF Diet
Autism through a Sister’s Eyes
Freaks, Geeks & Aspergers Syndrome: A User Guide to Adolescence
The breadth of information covered in each box means that it is a tremendous resource. They have been used as:
- a class resource for a specific unit of work on disabilities;
- to supplement material covered during a Professional Development Day presented to the whole teaching staff of a school wanting to know more about ASD;
- as an adjunct to a parent talking to their child’s class about ASD and how it affects their child’s behaviour; and
- general loan material for interested parents and staff
In addition a DVD “Intricate Minds” has been added to each primary and high school box.
This DVD, which has interviews of students with Aspergers Syndrome of varying ages, complements a lot of the other materials and is an easy and direct way to generate group discussions.
The book boxes are loaned out for one term (or longer on request) and help to promote a better understanding of Autistic Spectrum Disorder issues among teaching professionals as well as the wider community.
If you would like to borrow any of the book boxes, please contact:
